Chin Straps

I mentioned a few days ago that I thought we needed to have a look at chin straps and the various types that can be found:

Top to bottom above: Oldenberg M95 chin strap with fine rounded buckles
Bavarian M95 with slightly thicker rounded buckles
Stalhelm chin strap with square brass fittings which have been painted grey.
Bavarian M15 chin strap with thick grey square buckles and fittings. The leather here is also very thick and substantial.

Below: Partial chin strap showing a brass M91 fitting held on by a round headed black split brad. The first pic shows the reverse side. This strap measures 2.25 cm wide (half an inch). You can also see where the buckles were on the leather strap. The empty curled end of this strap has the hole for the split brad. On this model, there does not seem to have been any means for adjusting the length of the strap as on other models.
