Just posted on ebay.

Looks to me as a parts helmet . Officers in front EM in back .

Short Off spike but it does have a nice plate.

Rear visor does have the Off tiny leather trim but is THICK .

Or is it a good 1867 spineless ?

This looks like an entirely proper 1867 officer to me. The Wappen clips used on Model 1867 were not popular and were not often, if ever, used on private purchased helmets (I don't think that I have ever seen a private purchase example). The liner is the square finger type used by officers through the Model 1870, and even beyond. The stitching looks correct. I would want to see a photo of the reverse side of the Wappen before I invested this much money, but overall I think it's good.

Did we ever decide whether or not this helmet was proper?
I have asked the seller to send me photos of the reverse side of the Wappen, if he can.
The photos make the Wappen appear as if it were painted, so I asked about that too.

Did this unit wear a Trichter, or would a fixed (not unscrewable) spike be okay?

True. It was originally posted at $2300.
The seller contacted me and said that he did not wish to remove the Wappen because it had not been off before.
He also said that the Wappen was not painted, just the photo made it look that way.
He said the helmet had been in his collection for 35 years --- but we all know how that goes.

John :-k

I bought it.
