This is not any grenadier! This is Generalfeldmarschall Count von Moltke (the elder). Commander of the Prussian army and one of the most famous war theoreticians.

He is wearing the helmet of C G R 9
I know who he was
I checked the Rang List 1880
he was
the Chef of the regiment at the time
and would wear the uniform of G C R 9

Steve, when I wrote "This is not any Grenadier" I did not mean "This is not a Grenadier", but "This is not an anonymous, random Grenadier". Sorry if this was not clear. I do know von Moltke was Chief of CGR9.

Beautiful photo, congratulations!I own a rucksack from this regiment, later taken over by Landwehr.Regards.

This helmet is likely to have "seen" von Moltke, as it is a 1867 model for GR9. It is also a typical reworked 1860 model, with front and back reversed. The stitching that was hidden under the rear spine on the 1860 helmet is now under the eagle. Former eagle attachment holes were patched and can still be seen, inside and even outside the back of the shell. Holes for attachment of the cruciform spike basis have been also patched. This helmet is entirely original and unmessed with.L1030323_zps75518d48.jpgL1030326_zps9b58dd63.jpgL1061362_zpsuvdmbx6n.jpgL1030327_zps954dee42.jpgL1061375_zpsqcvl3at9.jpgL1030333_zps8de2bf19.jpg

Nice Helmet, thank you for sharing. Amazing how good the repairs were, the patches are nearly invisible from outside (y)
