As we are mostly all home, some posts from the collection as Brian has requested.

Here are a couple hard to find M1871-1887 helmets, Prussian and Baden.

Prussian 25th Infantry Enlisted Man Model 1871-1887 conversion helmet. Heavy black lacquered leather body with brass trim. Firm stitching with excellent finish. Full leather liner in great condition. Rare M1887 leather chinstrap and hook type hanger. Single Prussian cockade. Regimentally marker to the 25 IR and dated 1886.

the second one is Baden for Tony :guns:

This one came with Baden kokarden on both sides so I left them there. this one also has scales with the unique hook type hanger. Also ahs earlier type spike with removable spike top for plume.

Thanks

James

Ohhhh!

Thank you Marvellous detail photos James :grommit:

Someday, maybe, probably not, I will find a Preußen M1887. If I don't, oh well.....

Lovely helmets!

I've never owned a pattern 1887 helmet.

I pretty much stuck to pattern 1891 forward.

So how are the "hooks" secured to the helmet body? Bent over prongs and washer?

Thanks for posting.

A great looking pair of helmets James, and very hard to find on the loose! Congratulations! =D>

Thanks for posting the nice pictures of them! :thumb up:

Best Wishes,

Alan

Beautiful helmets, James.
I have never found one that had an original chinstrap.
Knowing how impossible it would be to find one I never made a purchase.
Outstanding!

John :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:

Here is the pic of inside, they are held on with a single screw, sorry drawstrings are tied and tough to get great photo.

Thanks for the photos James.

Not quite what I was expecting.

I would think that that screw head could be pulled through the leather shell without a lot of force.

The condition of these helmets is really outstanding! Superb and rare. I cannot remember seeing one for sale with the original chinstrap lately.
The presence of two Baden cockades is puzzling. Who knows why? An over-zealous, little-informed previous collector?...
