This guy was a bit of of a celebrity. He was considered the tallest guard soldier of all time. "Der lange Josef" was actually named Josef Schippers, who was active with the 1. Garde-Regt. zu Fuß
(Potsdam) Garde-Korps, from 1905 to 1907. He founded a company by the name of "Schippers & van der Ville" 1912. His listed height here included the height of the helmet. There was a standing order that he ate two rations a day and consumed a liter of milk daily. Apparently, he was a pain in the rear for his NCOs. I do not know what he did during the war. He died in 1948.
