Dragoon helmet

Any thoughts on the attached, please? The wappen looks like a Garde plate, but without the star. It's not like the plate I thought dragoons wore.

Tony, thanks for the quick reply. I've looked at your reference, but I still don't understand why it wouldn't have the star on the chest of the eagle, which the Garde eagles have in your material? Sorry if I'm being thick!

Subject to the above, does the helmet look OK to you? I'm trying to get some better pictures.

Congratulations on your site. It's a tremendous resource. I've dipped in and out of it a few times over the years, as someone who's bought and sold a few pickelhaubes as part of a more general helmet collecting hobby.

Regards

Patrick

Because it is missing. See the two slots on the front? That's where the star was. Must have gotten popped off at some time. Now, there were a few Dragoner units that wore the "Garde" eagle without star (Grenadier Eagle Wappen) but they have no slots on the front. For this helmet, you would want to ensure there is not a LG marking inside. Do a search in this forum, you will find that Rural Police who were on horseback, wore this pattern helmet, but marked LG, and they are sold as Garde, when they are actually police.
