Dragoon mounted

I think this might be a member of the 16 Dragoon Regt. (postcard was sent to Hannover). It is interesting that the horse has an officer's bridle, saddle and saddle blanket.

D R 16 had yellow collar and cuffs .Also his hat band would be yellow .
I know that sometimes yellow for some reason shows up darker in old
B & W photos , but these colors are pretty dark

As Steve said the orthochromatic film of the era does not show colours accurately and can often reverse tnem. Especially yellow which almost always looks black.

As for a Dragoner riding an officers horse with the horse’s tack, it was a common practice for the men to exercise the officer’s horses daily. Officers in Garrison were often elsewhere doing officer stuff.
