A heavy thick leather helmet , would possible give some kind of protection to a sword-blow :violent1: .
The helmet is still in good shape.
The back visor is stamped ; 3 S.D.R.15 _1897 (3. Schlesische Dragoner-Regiment Nr. 15)
and 1897-3F and aslo garnitur II
