Subject: Helmets

This office hereby informs you that regarding the correspondence of October 24, 1914 that due to the extra weight of ersatz tin helmets they are not suitable to replace leather spike helmets for foot troops.
According to the decree of 4.10.14 Nr. 426/10.14.B3 (and 6.11.1914 Nr. 111.11.14) which was issued by the Clothing Issue Department (Bekleidungs Abteilung) to all subordinate wartime clothing issue depots (Kriegs Bekleidungsamts) and informed them that 28,500 felt spike helmets were ordered for the Army Corps, of which 6000 were to be produced in November, the rest of this order will be delivered by the end of December 1914. This office is now acting on the assumption that by using these ersatz helmets the requirements of the wartime Clothing Depots (Corps Bekleidungsamter) will be able to use this type of ersatz helmet to cover the current demand.

I.A. (signed) von Obernitz

Additional Note, only for the General Commandos of the Guard Corps, the I. – VI., VIII.-XI. And XV.-XVII. Army Corps.

The supplies of leather ersatz helmets are available as supplies permit to the (field ) wartime clothing issue depots (Kriegs Bekleidungsamter) up through the end of December 1914 from the Army Corps Clothing Issue Depots (Belkeidungsamter)
