Not surprised...officer and very rare, plus providing the holes match, an easy replacement to up grade a helmet.

"Upgrade" what a fine way of putting it! After all, with an officer's helmet, if it fits perfectly, nobody would be able to prove differently.

I'm surprised also that it didn't push $800 or more for the final price.

I agree entirely. And that's the quagmire we face as collectors of pickelhaubes, if we want to step up to those much more expensive helmets that are higher priced simply because of the Prussian officer line eagle with a device or banner on the eagle. Aside from the Prussian guard regiment helmets, I still view the Prussian Officer "honor banner" regiments as a sort of mine-field because of the ability to switch plates quite easily to upgrade a helmet.

Best Regards,

I'm sure there are people who know just the setting and time on a hair-drier, or similar to soften the lacquer enough to 'impress' the bandeau as well. :-k
Oh well, we all just have to hope for the best in our purchases and maintain a critical eye and not get 'buy fever'... if possible!
