Finally, a leather-edged Filzhaube that's not being marketed as original on eBay. :)

True. Too bad about all of the damage to it. If I were going for a replica, I'd want it 100%. Then again, the fake aging might appeal to somebody who wants to pay for that. I've two replicas in my house (not in the collection.. they're for fun. After all, Halloween is coming up!) One is a 6th Kuerassier, the other is a 'colonial' Filzhaube. I like them both... but they look, and are, new. :)

A 'colonial' Filzhaube? That sounds interesting. Do you have a photo, by chance?

I have an urchin here who hopes to win a Halloween costume contest as a Pickelhaube-wearing Prussian infantryman circa 1905...even down to the bayonet knot. :)

No, I never photo'd it, just felt with green leather visors and a comfortable officer style liner. I thought it was fun and at the low price it was going for, I bought it for costume parties and such. So far, it was well worth the $80, or whatever it was I paid. :) You can certainly spot it as a repro. It smells brand new (a nice, new leather smell), and the plate lacks detail up close. Also, the spike has the domed brads holding it on, not the usual without.

Only, as I said with the domed brads retaining the spike. Repros aren't much good for the collection, but they still have an element of fun.
