Felt Pickelhaube

Haven't picked this up yet and pictures aren't the greatest. Getting it next Saturday.

Would appreciate opinions on it. I.e. what is the badge etc. Doesn't look like the badge has ever been off of it (still held on by leather wedges). Is green felt, has one damaged post and the liner is rough. Might be some writing on the rear visor. Missing cockades and chinstrap.

Thanks.

Peter

The seller is also throwing this matchstick holder in with it.

You are right, it is a Prussian Guard felt helmet.
It looks original, but the pictures of it are not so good.
I'd go for it if the price is right. :)

That's a very nice price for it!
I bought a similar one, but not Guard, a regular Prussian one for about $475, in about the same condition some time ago.
Admitted, it did have original kokarden and chinstrap, but still you did well.

Can anyone tell me what colour chinstrap was typically used on this type of helmet? Black or brown?

Thanks.

Peter

So I picked up my new Felt Pickelhaube yesterday and am very pleased. The only really rough part is the liner but you can't have everything.

I did a light cleaning and put on my repro cockades and (yes crappy) repro chinstrap. I have a much better quality reproduction coming from Prairie Flower Leather Company.

It is definitely all original and even has leather wedges holding the star on the wappen. Seems to have been some kind of stamp on the rear visor but I can't make anything out now.

I am still looking for an original replacement post for the damage done. Or just the brass cap for the post that seems to have fallen off and gone missing. And of course an original set of cockades. Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

Peter
