Man, it must be tough to come into this hobby now with all of the fakes out there.
Nothing like holding the helmet in your hands, taking a good sniff for age and looking it over closely. Once they get that 'old helmet' smell down, then look out!

The old helmet smell is easy, I almost passed up an ersatz Helmet years ago, because it smelled "new" and was in much too good of condition.

Thinking about that, I have one similar that I bought in the late 1970's. I can't remember the smell though, it's in a display case right now.

I do have a nice replica my wife bought me when I was in Iraq and it smells 'really new'!
