Is this is a war time repair? The chin strap lugs have been moved out of place, the spine also has a hex nut. The shell was restitched. The helmet otherwise looks old and OK to me, just a bit worked over.

Pointystuff if you are the seller can you have a look, there seems to be a paper or something crammed inside the spike. Maybe a treasure map? :D

I'm not the seller...and won't be the buyer, either. :)
Maybe this one was modified post war after all, given the hex nut and the post placement.
 
Reworked post war is an interesting idea... Not the work itself, but that it would be repaired at all. Somebody, somewhere had to order the DM's to be spent to do that, which means that perhaps the German army was still thinking of using the Pickelhaube after the war for some purpose (until the Kaiser went on 'vacation'). Interesting to think about.
Yes, I do know about the ones used by the National Socialists, but I've only seen one photo of those. I've said this before; I think it should be brought back for ceremonial purposes... but then, that's just me. :)
