First post, latest acquisition...

Hello Gents,
Although I've been collecting for years, I've not participated in this forum before but thought the acquisition of my "white whale" was a suitable occasion to start. I've been waiting patiently for this 1st Bat. and Staff 1st GRzF helmet since I first saw it 15 years ago, and it finally paid off! The condition is superb and untouched, and I think that besides dusting I'll leave it as is. Pictured here alongside the corresponding parade mitre...

Cheers,
Arran.

oh my goodness

Could I bother you for a picture of the inside on how the tab is connected? Welcome to the forum but you haven't given me my Christmas present yet -- this would do in a pinch! Thank you for sharing this!

Hi Arran:
Welcome, good to have you with us. That obviously is a fantastic pair that you have there!! I have to echo Joe here, I would love to see some additional pics of each headress. They are both very rare and some interior shots of how everything is put together would be very interesting. You see these things in the references but no one gets down to the nitty gritty as to what they look like one the inside and how everything is put together. Thanks for the post, Brian

Arrrrgh!! That is one excellent helmet!! The liner is pristine, interesting to note that the visors do not have the usual red and green leather on the inside. I am also wondering due to the blackening of the fittings if they are not German silver. My Oldenburg Dragoon officer has similar tarnishing. The underside of my spike base is marked 08 which indicates Greman silver.....any similar markings on this helmet?? Congrats again on a superbe piece. Brian

Hi Brian,
I believe this one is silver plating, probably over brass. I have a few other helmets with these mounts. My Hessian 115th officer, on the other hand, has mounts of German silver (nickel silver), which have more of an even yellowish hue rather than the black oxidation of the silver plate. The mitre, which I'll picture next, also has metallic portions of silver plated brass, with contrasting polished and matte details...

Cheers,
Arran.
