I picked this up last week. I believe that due to the flag colours and cypher this is the 1898 model patch from the 7th Bavarian Feld Arty Regt. Some obvious fading issues but the reverse side shows the original colours of the silk embroidery thread. I know there are modern copies....this one does not light up under "black light" and I believe it is original. Thanks James for your help regarding this piece.

Thanks everyone. The quality of the embroidery work is quite outstanding, if you look closely, you can see that 2 small split canes were stitched in to give the flagpoles a 3 dimensional look. The flat side of the cane faces flat to the backing of the patch while the rounded side faces up to produce "the look". You can see this in the area of missing purple thread on the lower half of the poles.

Unless you know something that I don't know or you have some reference that shows that you can I D
this Fahnentrager sleeve patch to one regiment only ,please let me know. Any regiment within the
Bavarian Armee that carried their flags would have the same exact cypher for all patches .The cypher does not change
on the patch per each regiment .
The only regiment that I know of that could be I D to it , would be the Prussian Husaren Regt. 4 . The cypher would be the same
for all Prussian Fahnentrager patches but for H R 4 the patch color would be the special brown color , the same as the Attila color.
The 1 L H R 1 and 2 L H R 2 would be on black .Some other H R would be on green and so on
Same for the Bavarian Armee , the color of the patch would follow the color of the sleeve of the uniform , but all patches
would have the same cypher. Never the less it is a super patch as we have talked about before .Great find !

Thanks for the extra info Steve. I simply went with the cypher that was on the 7 th’s Shoulder strap using the Laine book as reference. James also produced a picture from a reference showing the patch with a simplified “L” which was introduced in 1914. According to the reference the cypher shown here was introduced in 1898.

Brian ;
All correct info but the cypher has to do with the King of Bavaria at the time .

Brian,

PRL, Prince Regent Luitpold cypher used from 1899 until the ascension of Ludwig III then changed to the "L" cypher in 1914.

Excellent find, now you need a Bavarian fahnetrager ringkragen to go with it!
