They are also a weak spot from me...just love them...

Very nice, mine is mounted Gendarme they have a great Prescence. Rob

My favorite is my trumpet player.
Recognizable by the red ponytail.
Unlike cuirassier troops, they wore white epaulettes.

Here's my model 1858 with the leopard skin. Yes it's been made into a lamp but it was priced as a lamp, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford it.

The black fur is referred to as « vache marin» in French or «sea cow» translated to English. Is that some kind of Manatee or dugong? Do anyone know?

I believe it's seal fur. The same material used for hussar busbies/pelzmutzen
