This is another recent pick up from my trip to Europe. This is the rarer Model 1878 pith helmet.

This is 1895 dated poster depicting the French invasion of Madagascar (From the collection of Le musée de l'Armée ). I'd love to own this poster!

peter- looks like you had a very good trip abroad, 3 helmets WOW!

Actually four helmets. I also picked up a WWII era Britsh MkIII Turtleshell. Strangely you don't see those in the United States much, even though the Canadians used them at D-Day. Odd, but the one I saw at SOS was $300. I put that down quickly. Needless to say I didn't pay that in the U.K.

And thank you the trip was very good. I saw a LOT of great stuff.

Very nice Peter! Congratulations. I am very glad that we expanded the forum to include this General Headgear section, it is a real education for me. I would love to have that poster on my wall as well. Thanks for the posting

Nice Pith helmet.
Would like to see the Turtle , Canada's 3rd Div used them as did some of the Brittish troop's. They were not very popular. Canada made some in the 50's . But the WW2 issue ones are very rare and 300 was not really that bad for a good Helmet.

P.S. I love that poster as well.
