Good morning all,

I am new to the forum so please excuse me for presenting my post.

I would like to know your opinion on this Bavarian General plaque.

Personally I do not like this type of manufacturing but I would like to know your opinion.

Thank you very much in advance.

Welcome to the forum Paul, great to have you with us. Unfortunately, I have no expertise in this Bavarian area but I am sure that our resident Bavarian collector James Le Brasseur and others will help you out.

Welcome to the forum Paul,

The helmet looks good to me, but then again, I am no expert on these helmets.
So unfortunately I cannot help you out with your question of its originality..
Like Brian said, there are more members who will help you out with their knowledge on these helmets. :)

But feel welcome here, and ask whatever you want to know here on the forum.
We all learn from each other here, I myself learnt a lot when starting collecting these pickelhaubes here.
And I still do.

Greetings, Coert. :thumb up:

Paul- welcome to the forum. There are several variations of the Bavarian Generals wappen that are real, yours appears to be one of the good ones.

Yours is the type where they put the enameled badge on over the top of existing wappen. You want to see details on both side of the enameled part, but only enamel on front, a lot of Fakes are enameled on both sides. You are looking for two posts on the back that are soldered on and should be silver posts... Cannot tell what color yours are.

There are things to look for in the enamel, which I will not mention on the forum, the fakers are getting better, but have not figured this out yet. again, I think yours looks good.

From what I see I think it could be a nice original.

James

Good evening James,

Thank you for your answer.
I easily understand that it is not appropriate to say on a forum the small peculiarities of the email to prevent the copies from improving ...

It is a late helmet made of resin.
I forward some additional photos

Thanks again for your reply.

The correct name for the material your helmet is made from is “Vulcan fibre”. :) This is an early form of plastic. These helmets are often in prime condition because the material is inert and does not react to humidity. I believe Vulcan fibre was used prior to the war, it can be cracked if hit hard and the visors can be warped if they sit for years under some type of weight. This is what I have seen on a couple of these pieces. Actually, the first British patent for this was issued in 1859.

Great piece. I'm a big fan of the "fibre helm" . To me it appears to have been the best material for the helmets. Of course I have no idea what wearing one in the sun for a full day would be like (has to be better than the Tin ones). And who doesn't like the enameled Wappen?

Good evening everyone,

Thank you for this additional information.

I have only been collecting pickelhaubes for a very short time.

I will allow myself to put other helmets in identification.
