General of the Infantry 1 Garde Regt. zu Fuss and also adjutant to Kaiser Wilhelm II
as worn by von Plettenberg

Born in Neuhaus on 18 December 1852. Entered the army as a Portepee-Fähnrich form the cadet corps on 2 August 1870 in IR 53. Served throughout the Franco-German war and was commissioned as a Seconde-Lieutenant on 18 December 1870. He attended the War academy from 1875 to 1878 being transferred to the 1. GRzF on 23 October 1877. Promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on 12 April 1879 and to Hauptmann and company commander of 11. Kompanie (without a patent) on 3 May 1884. He was granted a patent of seniority as an Hauptmann on 30 May 1884 and appointed as the commander of 4. Kompanie on 20 November 1884. On 24 March 1890 he was transferred as a supernumerary Major to Jäger-Bataillon Nr. 7 being appointed as its commander on on 18 November 1890. On 16 June 1894 he was appointed commander of the Garde-Jäger-Bataillon where he was promoted to Oberst-Lieutenant on 16 June 1896. On 15 June 1898 he was appointed acting commander of 1. GRzF being confirmed in that appointment on 27 January 1899. He was additionally appointed as a Flügeladjutant to the Emperor on 2 May 1899.

On 22 March 1902 appointed inspector of the Jäger and Schützen and additionally commander of the Reitendes Feldjäger-Korps. Generalmajor on 22 April 1902 and Generalleutnant on 20 March 1906. On 24 September 1906 he assumed command of the 22. Division and that of the IX. Armee-Korps on promotion to General der Infanterie on 12 April 1910. Transferred in the same capacity as commander of the Gardekorps on 1 March 1913. On 10 June 1913 he was additionally appointed as a Generaladjutant. He commanded the Gardekorps in the field and was placed à la suite to 1. GRzF on 27 January 1916 (thus entitling him to the pattern of shoulder board above). He was transferred to the "officers of the army" on 24 January 1917 and retired on 6 February 1917 whilst retaining his appointment as a Generaladjutant and his à la suite status with 1. GRzF.

The general died on 10 February 1938.

agreed and only one chap in the frame as a Generaladjutant to Kaiser Wilhelm I: General der Infanterie Bernhard von Werder (1823-1907) à la suite to the Garde-Füsilier-Regiment.
