From 1874, a modern artillery firing range with barracks complex, laboratories, measuring and shelling facilities as well as its own railway connection was built in the Brandenburg State Forest near Kummersdorf. Until the end of the First World War, guns, ammunition and equipment were primarily tested in Kummersdorf and the army motorization was continuously developed.
