Does anyone know if the German Armee used shotguns during WWI?
I have a photo of a man from a Munition Kolumn dated 20 March 1918, and he appears to be armed with a double barreled shotgun. Can anyone identify his weapon?
Mystery has been solved on another forum, the weapon has been identified as a drilling (from the German drei for three) refers to a combination gun that has three barrels, which may be any mixture of rifle and shotgun barrels. In this case two shotgun barrels over a single rifle barrel.
Hey George,
I think that late in the war, the rear guard may have used anything that was available, but what I want to know, is that the new Dr. Who behind him?

Great photo George. During the war in Bosnia, as a WO, I carried a pump Winchester on foot patrol. Less effective than our Canadian version of the M16, but I still felt good carrying it.
