Gift saber Baden

Today I would like to show one of my pieces of jewelry, which will certainly please our new Baden collectors. A gift saber. The blade is made of Damascus steel. The handle is made of solid silver. This saber cost a small fortune back then. Nothing is too expensive for friendship. Frhr. von Gall /Frhr.von Gleichenstein. (victor von Gleichenstein)

Just WOW!

Ditto to the comments above. However I have never seen a haube photoed in such a position before.

Presumably from Karl Freiherr von Gall who was commissioned on the same date (18.10.97) as Maximilian Freiherr Huber von Gleichenstein. Baron von Gall was from the 1. Großherzoglich Hessisches Infanterie (Leibgarde-) Regiment. I should think they attended a Kriegsschule (war school) course together prior to being commissioned. He was transferred to the reserve of his regiment on 22 July 1905 and into Landwehr status in 1908 (I Darmstadt). Promoted to Oberleutnant der Landwehr on 18 May 1908, he was under command Landwehr-Bezirk Frankfurt a.M. in 1914. He was promoted to Hauptmann der Landwehr II on 21 October 1914 while serving with the Hauptreserve (main reserve) Königsberg. He survived the war.

Maximilian Freiherr Huber von Gleichensten was born 4 October 1876 at Oberrotweil, Baden. He entered LGR 109 as a Fahnenjunker on 15 July 1896 and was promoted to Portepee-Fähnrich and Seconde-Lieutenant on 16 February 1897 and 18 October 1897 respectively. He was the adjutant of Landwehr-Bezirk Mosbach from 1 October 1904 to 30 September 1907 (Presumably where the portrait was taken). He was promoted to Oberleutnant on 18 February 1908 and to Hauptmann and company commander on 1 October 1913. He was taken prisoner at Carency as a battalion leader on 9 May 1915 and interned in Switzerland. He also survived the war and retired as Major.
