Great grandfather of all Pickelhaubes M1842

Diethelm at Kammerbulle has produced some 1842-1860 plates but does not list them on his web-site. You have to inquire. These are stamped in copper (not a galvano copy) as well as stars and he can have the pieces gilded or you can have it done. Its an inexpensive way to display the helmet with an authentic plate until you conclude how the M1871 plate got on there. Its a conundrum. Dealers are always fiddling with these helmets and have been for many years. On the other hand it makes you wonder if some of these old helmets weren't put away to be brought out on later occasions by their owners and upgraded. A 9th Infantry helmet with original Colburg bandeau but attached over a later plate has been discussed on this site. Papa von Wrangel appears to have kept his M1843 right up to his death in 1877.
