In many of the translations of book written by soldiers I have come across many stories of soldiers as they neared the end of their convalescence were often invited in groups for tea with patriotic families, or the families of serving officers.
A very nice picture, and very different from the usual group photos. The standing officer looks like a doctor to me, so my guess is that the treating doctor invited some of the soldiers in his care to his home.
