Great photo! Usually the ones we see today have had the pole cut just below the ring. Easier to transport that way I guess

That's because when they were brought out of Russia
they almost had to do that .
In some cases ( lucky ) they brought the bottom part of the pole
with them.
I had the Jager Batl. flag and the pole was cut in 1/2
but I was able to put it back together.
Grenadier Regt.9 / Fusilier Batl sorry to say
the bottom part of the pole was not brought back
but all the rest of it was!
