indeed, the 2 lower side banners may well have been cut.
I found this helmet on Alamy without further detailsIt would be interesting to check the eagle trace on the felt. It could be period, as UV rays generally leave the part under the eagle darker. If the cut was recent, we'd have the trace of each banner on the felt.
