Hessian Grand Ducal Picklehaube

Hesse officer IR 115. Leather body with no extra holes. All parts are silvered, recently polished, and held by split prongs,. The scales are German silver. The plate was once frosted. The Order of Henry is deep cobalt blue. It is slightly skewed and I have not tried to correct it. The white enamel ring has some pieces gone. The spike is detachable.

The body has two flaked spots on the back, and some leather crackling on the rear. The visor has been sanded down. It’s a great looking original, if not perfect Hessian 1st Grand Ducal helmet – at a nice price: $2,900

More... The close up of the back of the plate shows the flat brass tabs holding the center blue arms in place. It's a small space tolerance to work with, but it should be possible to bend them back just enough to loosen and straighten out the arms. It seems.
