Hessian on eBay # 200297916253

So what do you think of it??

It has a few issues doesn't it? - one of which is that it looks like the spikes been broken at the base and glued back on.

Just does look a little bit like a glue job. look at the detail on that wappen. is it just my eyes, or does it seem very detailed and three-dimensional. Chas put a very nice picture of a later Hessian wappen recently. It was a very clear picture with a great deal of detail, but I do not think that wappen was as detailed as this one. It does look like there is something wrong behind the bottom part of that wappen. Even the lion's head looks a bit three-dimensional. Kind of cool.

On first glance, the exaggerated depht effect seems to result from lightly polishing the surface of a strongly patinated plate. Thus, all edges are highlighted, leaving the cavities dark. But this would also help to obscure other faults. The details seem rather coars on some spots like the hatched bands on the lion´s body - what do you think, arent the vertical lines spaced too far?. A larger image would help a lot.

It also seems impossible to pull the rear spine out of the spike base like that without breaking someting. At least the upper brad of the spine should be damaged. Maybe the spike was also tilted forwards in this action, resulting in the damage that spikeymikey mentioned.
