History Channel's The World Wars

Well, I only saw part of The World Wars, which began airing this week but I have to say it was seriously underwhelming. It suggested Hitler joined the "German" as opposed to the Bavarian Army, showed use of steel helmets at the beginning of the war. Patton was armed in one sequence with an Enfield, etc.

The history is so glossed over. Churchill is of course blamed for Gallipoli and in this brief overview it is almost suggested the troop landings were part of the original plan. I will probably watch the rest but it was disappointing to say the least.

Hello,

I didn't see this show but it is kind of "errors" are frequent.

In my opinion it shows a great lack of rigor in historical research but maybe do they just want to simplify the events so that everyone understand? However, some shortcuts are unacceptable..

Too bad this kind of popular shows are re-writting history [-(

well, I just got done with part 1, boy I almost burst out laughing at parts.

Saw one seen where a German was carrying a Springfield rifle?

Seams we where all wrong and that German troops had Stalhelms as early as 1914

Seen 2 German scenes where they are wearing WWII German type helmets...

And so far my favorite, the show Churchill in a trench seen where he picks up the rifle of a fallen soldier and fires it, and you can see the trigger guard of the rifle falling out and hanging there.

It doesn't get better. Patton on a Lee tank in WWI is pretty bad! General Douglas MacArthur is shown as Army Chief of Staff with five stars! He had two or three stars in the 1930s and didn't get his fifth star (General of the Army) until December 1944!

I might skim the rest, but it is history I know and I've learned almost nothing from this series - except low the History Channel can go.
