I would like to discuss the one with the plume. It has a wonderfully gilded wappen with a landwehr cross in the upper position and a bandeau. A landwehr cross and bandeau is not uncommon in Baden helmets. I wonder if there is a reason why? To put this cross in the upper position, somebody had to drill holes into the wappen. Based on the quality of the gilt, one would think that that was done by a retailer. But why would he put a landwehr cross on a wappen that had a bandeau? If the cross was in the lower position, you could bend back the prongs without drilling holes. Does anyone think there is some logic to any of this or does it seem relatively random? Mine has a bandeau with a cross in the lower position ... . Well more middle position.
