Last year I required this Curassier Meckelburg dragoon helmet. I noticed that the museum which used to store and display this piece. Covered the helmet in some sort of wax or other substance, is there any way to remove it, without damaging the helmet/finish. Down below are pictures attached to show the waxy substance. I also want to make the brass more golden, like it used to be.

Most museums worldwide use Microcrystalline wax to preserve objects and it does not dissolve in alcohol like a lot of others.
It would be very wise to check back if the museum you acquired it from did, in fact, use microcrystalline as it is only really removable using Ether, Benzine, Chloroform and such like, being essentially about the same as Paraffin wax. You may find it a bit difficult to get these chemicals and maybe they could help?
