How to Restitch Yer OR's Tschapka Visor

Ok, this poor old beast has been in my collection for years bought from Manions. You will note the side posts are off due to the fact that sections of shell need refinishing. Note as well, my poor attempt at a repro liner, also stitched in years ago. I do have the original wappen but it is not shown. The visor sat dried up for years so had to be rehydrated to soften it up so I could stitch it. All thread must be cleaned out of holes in shell and visor. As shown, you need a curved needle, beeswax, some thread frrom the 1950's called cotton gimp and a great deal of patience. Your thread must be coated in the wax before starting and renew this while stitching anything leather So here are the fotos:

Turned out pretty decent. The side brads for the visor trim were later firmed up to lock the visor on to the shell and stabalize things. You see in the fotos how the thread must be left loose until you reach the other corner of the visor. Once complete, you have to pull your stitches one at a time from the inside of the shell to get rid of the slack and firm the visor up against the shell. The beezewax coating on your thread allows you to this. However, you can not pull too much on the thread as you risk breaking it, so be careful. The tschapka restitch is really unnique. I don't want to have to do another one!

Thank you Brian.

A great bit of advice. I've been needing to re-stitch a visor on an old tschapka for a while now and you've generously given some good detail. I appreciate it. Once I get all of the parts together and finish the job I will post the results.

Bryan.
