Hussar Regiment 20

I bought this years ago at an antiques mall in Toronto. The dealer thought that it was a fake because it was in such great condition and the price reflected that. I love when dealers have no clue as to what they have! There are no problems with this at all, no missing patches of fur and the piece is ink stamped twice " 20 HR" both on the inside and under the blue kolpak. Note the original feldzeichen. The red harrbusch would suggest musician, I have been told that it's style is incorrect, however it is natural horse hair and it came with the busby. As we all know, there are regulations and there are also realities. I consider this to be a very rare piece: The Regt was not established until 1910 and it is an issued piece not private purchase. All the older regiments were created many years earlier and as such there are more "survivor" busbies from them. This regiment was not issued with fancy coloured uniforms but feldgrau. They had 4 years to get organized and then they were at war. In my opinion, this is one of those treasure discoveries that makes this hobby so rewarding.

As promised some additional pics of the interior. Of note, the M91 posts are the type used on tin hauben ie. 2 broad prongs and tin washer. Wappen is loop backed.

Great Pelzmütze !

Can you post some pictures of the inside: the "frame" ?

The frame "Spanisches Rohr"/cane. This seems to be very difficult to reproduce !

This is a great book on the Husaren and the Pelzmützen ! http://www.terraculturae.com/pages/cavalerie-allemande/les-hussards-allemands.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm afraid it is no longer available !

Thanks to all for your comments. I will gladly post some pics of the interior construction. This score was such a fluke...the dealer was at his booth that day and I had bought some other item. He had a large display case with glass top which he used as a counter for when you paid. I was paying and then looked down and saw this busby! Inside I was freaking out but I had to keep my cool. The dealer who was a recent Hungarian immigrant was honest and said that he believed it to be a repro. However, I had a different idea on that topic. There are actually 3 stamps on the interior. You can see the 20 HR fairly clearly but the other 2 are very faint. I would presume that one is a date and the other perhaps an Army Korps stamp. I will post pics of my Leib HR 1 busby shortly. This is the one on the forum logo. Tony has inspected it and tells me it is a repro. I will post and get some further comments. It does have an unusual liner for an officer busby.

This is very interesting.
The typical ribbed/waffled section appears to be smooth in this busby and the lower section seems to be leather instead of canvas. Could this style of construction be unique to the Saxons?
