I Never Thought I Would Find a Real Provable One of These

Hello,

Every one of us as collectors knows how easy it is to switch front plates on some of the special regiments that have devices on the front plates. I have always had a certain degree of worry or fear in wanting to add one of these special regiment helmets to my collection.

I never dreamed I would ever find a real, provable helmet from the area in Germany where my ancestors come from. This is an enlisted reservist helmet of the 94th Regiment of Saxe-Weimar, with the unit markings to prove the front plate that is on this helmet is correct and original. It comes straight from the family of a WW1 US soldier. Exactly how he acquired it, I do not know at this point of time. Yes, these are still out there with families.

The cover is marked DRP under the visor.

Please excuse the phone camera photos, I did not take them. They were taken by the family. I'll take some better photos when the helmet arrives later this week. The family is looking for the other side of the chinscale set, and the elusive Saxe-Weimar kokarde. Not sure if they will find the other parts or not.

Best Regards,

Alan

Excellent helme Alan...congratulations. Finding an original kokarde is possible because I got one for my IR 94 on German Ebay. When you take the better pics, please post on the Dutchies thread that we already have going here so we can compare. :thumb up:

i am not suire but at the website kaiserbunker.com there is anoter helmet that has the same
'issue' the inside plate of the spike lies on top of the helmet istead of on the inside where it schould be
funny to look at
could be that the helmet went in to a bekleidungsdepot for repair or sommeting and at that point was wrong reassembled
just noticed it by looking at the pics
great helmet with a (?)

Regarding the spike support disc on the outside of the helme, we keep seeing this but if you look at the inside of Alan's helmet you see the "shadow" of the disc in the leather. The difference in colour is easy to see and it tells us that originally the disc was on the inside of the helme for many years....as it should be. Still, a great find...I love markings and above all I love these small duchy helmets with the extra star burst and coat of arms on the wappen. :bravo:
