I'm sorry, but this just bugs me....

I don't know what it is, but I can't stand militaria dealers who are out of touch with reality. This dealer is asking $150 US for a grey metal spike disk support! A GREY METAL SPIKE DISK SUPPORT!!....normally you can pick one up for around $15-50 or so. When I told him this he ridiculed me.

So here is the listening... I say we call out these dealers to protect ourselves and new comers from being taken advantage of, and have a good laugh along the way. The dealer is a militaria dealer who probably has been around a while so I'm pretty sure he has a general idea of what this part is worth. If people are gonna post B.S., I'm gonna call them on their B.S.

I will let Brian jump in here as he knows this seller well.

This dealer had an issue with a forum member at the SOS show that I will not get into, but it was weird.

I guess you can ask whatever you want for your stuff.... but yes, this is extremely high priced for what it is.

If you need one of these spike bases let me know... Mine is now worth $250.00 :^o

If I were you, I would advertise your "wants" here on the forum first and the same applies for anything you want to sell. Obviously we don't charge here. I have known that particular dealer for 30+ years and I do find his Ebay prices excessive. He also has a website store where prices are more reasonable and you can sign up to get email notifications. His storefront, is the only one left in Toronto to my knowledge. :(

I know people are entitled to ask what they want...
but lets say if you went into a store a store to buy a pillow and the seller was asking $150 for a generic pillow, what would you think? I would immediately get out of the store and let others know not to go there as that person is PRICE GOUGING.

And regarding the spike bases, well I have about 3 extra already....so I will post them as a lot of 3 for $450....($150 each of course....)

Now don't I sound ridiculous?

Yes James, we are not going to get into that issue. Give my fellow Canuck a break and sell him one at a decent price. You probably have 20 stashed in a box in yer basement! Remember Pontiac one size does not fit all and if you can't get a close patina match between base and spike, it screams replacement!

Yes you are right Brian about the fit and patina...BUT....if I was selling this item to someone I would be selling it at a fair price...

Pontiac: No apologies, no sorry, we all get frustrated in this game when we are trying to complete a helmet. James has pissed me off on numerous occaisions as well as Gus, Joe etc. We are all human and these are really stressful times. Think about that dealer....the TO shop is closed, he has at least 4 employees, anything he sells has got to be online, he has a wife and child. We will get through this crap!

Just you being you James...it's ok.. Lori, Eric and I accept you for how you are! Ha! Ha! It's ok Big Guy! :thumb up:

lol....sorry I'm not trying to cause conflict between members....I was just trying to vent some frustration about dealers...lol

Email me Pontiac when you can and clearly explain what you are trying to do/need regarding this spike base issue. Then maybe I can convince James to go look for his box of 20 bases in the basement. Maybe I can get the price down. :thumb up:

All good, Brian and I are just joking around with each other.

I would only add that all this "junk" is really only worth what someone will pay for it. I typically hit a couple dozen shows a year both for my collection and to buy items to resell.

My wife often accompanies me and will sometimes ask me about items. I have a "code word" if the price seems high. This scene from an old movie explains why my response is "used cars."
