Infanterie Regiments Hamburg (2 Hanseatisches) Nr. 76

Another silver presentation cup. This time presented to Oberleutnant Von Schweinichen by the officers of IR76 in 1913. Oberleutnant Von Schweinichen served in the Regiment from 18 August 1898 until 22 March 1913. He then joined Danziger Infanterie Regiment Nr 128 and appears in the 1914 Rangliste as Hauptmann. I believe he served throughout the war with that Regiment and died in 1923 (unless I have misinterpreted the note in the 1914 - 1918 Rangliste). About 10 years after I got the cup, I found a photo of the then Lieutenant von Schweinichen from 1909.

Michael ;
That is a super item .I really like it .Thanks for photos and the post .
I hope that you do not mind if I add to the thread .
I R 76 Hamburg is of special interest to me
Some years ago I was able to obtain the Parade Banner for one of the flags
of I R 76 .
Later in about 1999 Jan K. Kube had an auction of flags and flag parts
I was able to then add items that were from one of the I R 76 flags .
The 1870 Grand Cross of the Iron Cross pole top
the 1870-71 K D M streamer
and the 1900 Banderole

Thanks very much Steve. Of course I don’t mind you adding to the thread. What an amazing collection - but that seems to apply every time you post a photo!
All the best,
Michael

Thank you
I forgot to add that I also got from the Kube aucton
the unit ring of I R 76 from the flag pole
It is shown in the bottom photo top right

In the photo I see that they are wearing black belts
Were they part of the Fusilier Batl . ?
Steve

Good question. I have just looked at The German Infantry by Herr and Nguyen and according to them, after a decree on 12 March 1887, white leather equipment (in the case of infantry) was restricted to the Guards Regiments and Grenadier Regiments exclusively and all other infantry regiments ( and Fusilier Battalions of the Guards and Grenadiers) wore black belts and equipment. I didn’t know that before.

Michael,

that is a very nice image of Edwin von Schweinichen. I think you must have misread the Ehrenrangliste. He is shown as a Major a.D. (still alive in 1925 as of the date of publication). He was still alive in 1942. Holder of the Hohenzollern House Order Knights' Cross with Swords.

Regards
Glenn

Thank you very much for that information. That is great to know, and I am pleased (and not surprised!) to learn that I had misread the Ehrenrangliste!

Steve
Great photo
