Interesting WWI hate belt

I am no expert on hate belts etc. if that is what this is? I have seen many and held a few, but never one with a Iron Cross First Class on it.

Has Prussian button on one side and Iron Cross on the other.

Any thoughts and or information would be great.

I would love to take the cross off to look for makers mark etc. but it is on there pretty solid and I for sure do not want to tear the leather, so will leave as is.
