Hello guys!
What are you thinking about this one? It looks pretty good, but...
...I can´t tell exactly why, but my feeling´s telling me there is something with it...
I think I do not like the solder around the holes of the eagle (at the back of the wappen), where the sachsen-Gotha emblem is going through. This emblem is not sold there.....Parts helmet??
May be I am too suspicious, because of the fact that the seller frequently buys parts on ebay (his feedback)....Maybe I am wrong...

I looked at that too an had the exact same concern. It's a beautiful helmet and if you look closely, the solder puddles on the eagle line up with some on the prongs. To me, it looks like somebody soldered the wappen on years ago and then it was removed? OR, there's some other explanation for it? Certainly, it raises questions and maybe somebody who's seen more of this type of helmet can offer something more substantial. To me, everything SEEMS to fit together. I wonder though, would those be screw mounts on the Saxon wappen, or is that correct? I really don't know, but I'm saving my money for the helmet on the top of my hit list with the hope that I can find it before my career goes south at the hands of our state government.

You are right... It's a parts helmet...
- the nuts of the stars that hold the spike are not correct
- the condition of the Prussian eagle (almost like new) and the shell+ liner (not so good anymore) don't match
- the condition of the Prussian eagle (almost all the gold wash is still present) and the Saxon wappen (al the silverwash is gone) don't match
- the solder you mention is at least suspicious
Another reason for not purchasing the helmet is the very poor condition of the liner (broken sweatband)
Nevertheless, the eagle is the right one with "Fuerst" bandeau and the folded ribbon
Hope this can help you...

Here's one to compare...

Karel, all is clear now!! By the way, one big "WOW" for each helmet of your great "JR153 trinity"!! =D> =D> =D>
However, the best and clearest argument is the difference of condition between beautiful frosted eagle and very poor surface appearance of the saxon wappen and the rest of the Haube... That´s exactly the point that gave me a bad feeling without noticing it, but I realize that NOW!!
Another detail I do not like: the two holes at the inside of the skull, just under the rear brim

Hey Karel, I always love seeing photos of your helmets.. another beauty! The auction is just another confirmation of 'if that gut feeling says 'no', then there's a reason for it.' Now, for my real question, are the bent tabs for the Saxon wappen okay, or would those be screw posts?

:D Ron

Ron,
Both (bent tabs and screw posts) were used, officer stars as well . Screw posts first, bent tabs later. I have an officer helmet of the OJR 91 (later style) that has those bent tabs and it´s a good helmet with established provenance.
