It's back?????

Yes it is back, and with new pictures! It initially sold for 1300 dollars. The seller changed the write up a bit.
(Purists Note: Neu Ulm is in Bavaria almost on the Wurttemburg border. I have to assume that the Hessian Army contracted with an "out of state" manufacturer to fulfill their helmet needs. It is possible that this helmet may have been surplus stock for the Bavarian army. With the Hessian Army contract, the helmet may have refitted (plate holes filled and new holes punched for the Hessian plate). Again, this is speculation only on my part. I have owned this helmet since 1975-76).

The maker's mark doesn't disturb me too badly the erased marks on the depot marks do bother me. I am sure that the owner did not do that in the last 30 years. Nonetheless, I would want it to be marked to a Hessian Regiment. The double holes are indeed odd. The cruciform base seems completely original and is definitely Hessian. I could understand changing from a Prussian plate to a Hessian plate, as the plates became available, but I cannot understand how the final resting location for the wappen has the grommets. Why would the original plate go in the grommets and yet there are double holes? The variations are endless. Sometimes I get them sometimes I don't. The double holes would not be a killer for me but I would want the regimental markings in the depot Mark. I guess I am a purist. Janet ensured I was an Episcopalian. Maybe being a purist, is an offshoot of being an Episcopalian?

Hey Joe, that reminds me of a joke.
Two boys were in a church causing mischief, when the preist caught them, he deceided to teach them a lesson so he took them into the men's room and stuck their heads in the urinal and flushed. He then said, "Let that be a lesson to you". After he left, one boy aske the other "does this mean that we are baptized?" The other replied, "I guess so, but what religion are we?" The first responded, "Well, the Mormons have full emersion, the Catholic just sprinkle a bit of water on your head" then lisking his lips, "by the taste of it, I would guess that we are Pisskopalians".
As for the Hoube, is is possible that it was originally made for the Hessian Wappen, but there was not Wappen available, so a Prussian was mounted in the "new" holes and when a Hessian Wappen was available, it was replaced. Another thought is that the first set of holes were filled at the fabrik and the new holes were grommeted as they should be. I think it was Tony that said that if you have to make up a convoluted strory to explain a helmet, then maybe it would be something to pass on.
