Tom,
I don’t know much about this style of helmet’s, but learning all the time. Thank You for sharing your knowledge and photo’s.
Best regards
John

Hi Tom

I agree with Bruno. My 2 silver jzp has black leather liner which typically suggests that it is used before 1915.

If you look closely, this piece was made by CE Junker and is dated 1915 or 16 Consequently, the fittings are not neusilber, just highly polished as has been suggested. The helmet though, is in great shape with excellent M15 liner, correct spike and correct larger cavalry kokarden. The leather chin strap is also in good condition and appears to be original as it is only dyed black on the smooth side, which is proper. So, in my opinion a very nice helmet complete and in excellent condition, but one which has been polished.

Very easy way to confirm.

Will a magnet stick to the eagle / spike / trim etc. Yes = steel.

I also vote M15 steel but that very early M15 tall removable spike makes that a very difficult to find helmet.

Dear Friends .. thanks a lot for your feedbacks

after using a Magnet i confirm all is Steel

Still i have two questions,

the 56 in the rear spinn is the size
But the 57 under a cocarde and the 335 what did. they mean …Thanks Tom

I too have one of these JzP's with the brighter "matte" silver finish. It appears to be more of a silver wash, like lacquer, than a paint. I don't know exactly what it is but I have seen several helmets like that. I wrote a comparison here:

All fittings are steel on both helmets.

Very nice find by the way!

John

335 is a serial number, and the rear visor is the head size 56. The 57 is odd, as German sizes typically went up by twos: 52. 54, 56, 58 etc.

By the way, that was an excellent article you wrote John. A pleasure to read it again.

After your Input and very positives Feedback i will ceep it in my Collection

now i am sure it wasn‘t a mistake to buy it …

wishes Tom

The 57 may be a rack number.
Here are the numbers I have on a Kürassier helmet:

YdUrnZw.jpg

The K.1. is for the regiment (Kürassier Regt. Nr.1), the 2. is for the squadron, and the 43. is the rack number for the helmet.

I'm not sure what else it could be???

John

Yes, to my understanding.
These helmets were issued, so I assume somebody had to account for their whereabouts.
A stamped number that is easily accessible would help in that endeavor.
I have also heard that these "odd" numbers could be an inspector number.
I have such a number on the same Kürassier helmet.

I'm still not sure what it is for.

This is the stamp on my Kurassier helm. Same squadron, consecutive item numbers. Wonder if they knew each other?

It does look like they sat right next to each other in the "rack".
Mine is a Model 53/60. It appears that yours is a Model 1889.

Dear Friends

i Try to restore the m15 , i hope the old Charme before the polishing Hits
