Jan 1 2 Garde Regt zu Fuss in front of the Zeughus

What a piece of history!
The original pole is still used to hold the flag
It was carried in the War of 1812
battle damaged in 2 places and silver metal sleeves
with dates and location cover the damage
Only 1 of about 50 ? total to get the 1813 Iron Cross pole top

I am in awe of this sanctuary!
To be able to own such a living exhibit in one`s own collection is indescribable….
Best regards

Steve,

wonderful example! It is Thursday, 1 January 1914 as confirmed by this extract from the Deutscher Reichsanzeiger und Königlich Preußischer Staatsanzeiger dated Friday 2 January 1914.

Could you please add a little more information ?
I see there are 26 new Feldzeichen ( flags )
1914 is late for new flags
it must have been late formed regiments ?
I think that the flag on the left end is the 2 Garde Regt zu Fuss
but I do not know which Batl ?
2 G R zu Fuss would be the honor escort ?
My flag is 2 G R z F / I Batl
the flags of 2 G R z F were replaced as follows
I ; II & Fusilier Batls new flags 1900
IV Batl 1894
Thanks
Steve

Steve,

the article in the Deutscher Reichsanzeiger und Königlich Preußischer Staatsanzeiger is not explicit but I think we can safely assume the majority would have been of the newly formed third battalions (AKO of 4 May 1913) of the following regiments:

5. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß
Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr.5
IR 152
IR 153
IR 154
IR 156
IR 157
IR 158
IR 159
IR 162
IR 164
IR 167
IR 168
IR 169
IR 170

I had thought that the remainder might be those 3rd battalions formed in 1912 but a check of the Deutscher Reichsanzeiger und Königlich Preußischer Staatsanzeiger of 1913 and the regimental history of IR 161 scotched that theory. IR 161's colour was dedicated on 1 January 1913.

Some more searching yet.

Steve,

if we assume that the colour of F./2. GRzF is that on the extreme right as that of the senior regiment on parade, the two to the immediate left of that must be those of F./5. GRzF and F./GGR 5. The black plumes of the Colour bearers are indicative of the 3rd or Füsilier battalions.

2 G R z Fuss would be the only flag with the vertical strips in the body

Here is what I came up with
flags given ;
5. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß ; Fusilier Batl 1914
Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr.5 ; FB 1914
IR 152 ; III B 1914
IR 153 ; Sax Duchie III B 1914
IR 154; III B 1914
IR 156 ; III B 1914
IR 157 ; III B 1914
IR 158 ; III B 1914
IR 159 ; III B 1914
IR 162 ; Lubeck III B 1914
IR 164 ; III B 1914
IR 167 ; III B 1914
IR 168 Hessian ; I can not confirm this was one of the flags unless my reference is incorrect. It shows III B 1913
IR 169 ; Baden III B 1914
IR 170 ; Baden III B 1914
this is 14 flags confirmed

I did a little more checking
At first I ruled out the cavalry
but then remembered this
1914 these flags were given out
J z P R 7 ; 8 ; 9 ; 10 ; 11 ; 12 & 13
also Eisenbahn Batl 4
Telegraph Batl 6
that is 9 more for a total of 23
but I am still missing 3 of them ??
Here is my Eisenbahn flag in the muster of Prussian Garde Eisenbahn flag McFarland Collection.jpeg
