Bruno: Very nice JzP 5 helmet. Examples with darkened chinscales are very hard to find. Here is another example of a JzP 5/6 helmet. This one is a C.E. Juncker dated 1915 but unfortunately is not unit marked.

I may have seen that on the chin scales but I don't remember it.
As I am often want to do I'm starting to push some theories on this. Unmarked metal helmets..... I wonder how many of these were actually owned???

Joe, HUGE difference between an issued example and a private- purchase one. I have one that is private- purchase (below) and you would not believe how light it is; looks like issued, but weighs nothing. Issue helmets, on the other hand, are very heavy. Tjoerookery said:

So if all private purchase steel helmets are not the same and it looks as though Diensthelme's were a heck of a lot cheaper-- and many of these cavalry units were manned entirely by volunteers-- and they were paid more than a normal draftee-- so maybe -- maybe- cheaper helmets abounded?!?!

To complete this post, this are some views of a 8th JzP helmet.
regimental marking is stamped on the rear trim (as well as 57 size number) and is very good, both cocardes are very good, with typical white center.
There is a stamped marking on the shell behind the plate: 183
