Fabulous picture of a German Kavallerie trooper in action/patrol/training. Eastern Front. That's all I remember. Love this one !
Difficult to see: Dragoner or Kürassier ??? I think this is a Kürassier. The visor looks to be metal to me. Neckguard...

One of the amazing things we learned during our research for the next book is that at the start of the war they had carbines but no bayonets. So if you were unhorsed you are supposed to keep this 9 foot long lance.

Thanks for lesson gents. #-o however logical is when lance is for lancer... But as said Friedrich Wilhelm von Seydlitz: "The cavalry won not with sword help, but with a whip and spurs"

Great photo Francis!

Judging by the shape of the spike underneath the Überzug tip, I would say this guy is JZP. However, why is he wearing his chinscales and not a chinstrap? :-k
