Interior with a a lot of marking applied with a pencil but difficult to decipher.
Their is an unit marking “8” but hard to know what it refers to.

the chinstrap is long gone but one of the hooks has remained. Interestingly, it has been twisted and the head of the rivet holding it was hammered down flat to prevent the chinstrap from falling away. A common occurrence on those helmets.

This size 62 camo has been touched up. The different shades of black can be seen on the separating lines. I can also see two shades of brown in the rust brown paint. The lighter green and biege certainly not "as old as" the other panels of paintwork.
I'm not seeing what you're seeing Amy. Looks OK to me. The paints used were generally gloss, and had a flattening agent (probably talc or something like it) added. The mixing was not always consistent, especially noticeable in the black lines, appearing as streaks of flat or gloss. It also thickened the paint, hence the thick texture and brush strokes often visible.

Hi Steve,Thank you for your opinion. I will give that camo a miss. One sign I always look at is the condition of the interior vs the exterior. A well-worn liner cannot have a 90% paintwork still retained on the exterior unless it has been touched up. However, a good liner can be inside a worn out helmet because the collector gets an original and puts it in. If I have a 90% paintwork camo, I wouldn't put in a crappy liner with three falling off pads.
Just my 2 cents opinion.
Original and nice camos are hard to come by nowadays.
I will say one can never be 100% certain from even the best photographs, the helmet must be inspected in hand. The fakes today are very well done. I picked up my first camo in 1965 and have owned and looked at a fair number since then. I have pulled them out of attics, basements and barns in every level of condition.

Thank you for your opinions which, I believe, have good points.
Now my comments:
- There is no rust under the paint and where the pain appears to have been reapplied, the reapplication is with the same paint.
- the black line are clearly not reapplied. A reapplication would have left marks and would have affected the accuracy of the lines, not in this case.
- the interior is not crappy, it is very dry. I have added a ring of textile material to hold one of the pads which was starting to get detached. All three pads are there and completed with their cushions and laces to hold them in place.
I agree with Steve, it is one of those for which you would probably need to have a hand-inspection. I will try to get other pictures soon.
