Hallo,
Was the eagle plate of a m15 helmet made of iron or bronze with a grey finish?

Typically they were sheet steel with a zinc finish, although some pre-war plates may have been painted grey during wartime.
 
All the OR M15 Wappens I have handled have been steel painted grey. The reason for changing to the M15 was to replace the brass fittings with steel, as brass was in short supply, so the few brass plates that are encountered that have been painted should not be considered M1915, but an ersatz veresion.
