M89/97 Tschapka for Garde Ulanen Regt Nr. 2

It's been a while since I posted something, but one has to find the time to take pictures...
Anyway here's my Tschapka for Garde Ulanen Regt Nr. 2. It's a enlisted men's private purchase Tschapka with its Paradebusch, Paraderabatte and Fangschnur.
When I saw this, I was immediately ammased by the red Rabatte and couldn't resist of course...

Very fine 2.GUR Tschapka !

And as always: crisp photo's. Better than a reference book. "All angles views".

Thanks again,

Francis

Very nice!
It's interesting how the enlisted man's helmet has the officer style plate with separated wingtip feathers and the thick Garde star. An Ulan of means--or at least the recipient of a doting family's expensive gift, perhaps?

I'm not a big fan of Tschapkas--somehow they remind me of college and are among the most expensive in their category--but this one (and Pointystuff's Avatar) are simply AWESOME!
So I guess only the COCKADES are not Off. style? Couldn't the guy have upgraded these as well or would it have been against regulations? Are the chinscales EM or Off. style?

Thanks for the compliment on the avatar. Unfortunately, it's completely bogus....the shell is vac-formed abs, the eagle is an electroformed copy (a "galvano," as they are known), the scales and Kokarde are restrikes, the feldzeichen is one I made myself, and the ribbed part was created on a modern Singer sewing machine.

Well Adlers' aint no replika, that is for sure. Superbe example.....better than most museums! Congrats Adler!! Ron, the chin scales are officer style. This is an example of a private purchase piece. We have a completely beautiful officer helmet, wappen, liner etc to parade but with OR's cockades on it. This kokarde anomaly could be because the owner was a One Year Volunteer, an officer aspirant (Tony help me out here) or just someone who had the bucks to buy officer but was not allowed to wear the officer kokarden to complete it. The main thing is that it is totally, I mean totally Legit as it is. Many collectors would have thrown a couple of officer kokarden on it to up the price. It is even sweeter to have it in its original configuration.

This is a superb example of a private purchase tschapka. To avoid confusion it is important to note that the busch, fangschnur, feldzeichen, rabatte and guard star are also other ranks (enlisted) style.

Thank you very much for your replies gentlemen!

To avoid confusion it is important to note that the busch, fangschnur, feldzeichen, rabatte and guard star are also other ranks (enlisted) style.
That's correct, so "upgrading" would need more than a Kokarde and a Feldzeichen... and as you know, this would be some kind of desacrifising for me...

Well it sure fooled me!!
Well, it's hard to see on this tiny picture of course...

For our newer members....regarding the custom garde star which R1 mentioned..... again because it is a private purchase piece look at the quality of the stamping and how it protrudes out from the wappen. If this were an issued helme then the star would be much flatter to the breast of the eagle. Like many of us here, I am not that familiar with the Tschapka and its accoutrements perhaps R1 or Adler could please tell us why the other parts to this private purchase piece are ordinary ranks not officer.

For comparison with Karel's Tschapka:

This one looks like a piece of furniture! :D
It is superb with only the original owner's actual head missing I guess!
I'm starting to change my mind about the Tschapkas...

As Brian requested, the following photos illustrate the differences in officer and issue style busches, feldzeichens, rabattes, fangschnurs and guard stars. The officer item is in the left or upper image in the following composite pohotos:

Busch
bushmo.jpg

The officer busch is made from Yak hair and the lower portion is in the state color. In this case black for Prussia. The issue busch is made from white horse hair. In the very nice example Chas posted above this entry the busch is that of an NCO. It is made from white horse hair with the upper portion in the state color.

Feldzeichen
ulc.jpg

The officer feldzeichen is made from silver bouillon with a center in the state color. The issue example is made from white wool with a wool center in the state color.

Rabatte

The officer rabatte cording has silver bouillon with accents in the state color. The issue rabatte has cording in white cloth.

Fangschnur

The officer fangschnur is made from silver bouillon cording with accents in the state color. The issue fangschnur is made from white cloth cording. The example posted by Chas is that of an NCO. It is made from white cloth cording with state color accents in the sliders and end pieces.

Guard Star

The officer's guard star is multi piece with colored enamel work. The issue guard star is one piece without any colored enamel work.

Many thanks for your posting R1! It does not get any better than that. Excellent pictures.
