Once upon a time, there was an opportunity to have this Hessen IR 117 in my collection. This time it was another rib I had to give away to acquire this haube...
Anyway, to celebrate the 200 year existance of the regiment, the 1697-1897 bandeau was added to the wappen of the helmets...
Enjoy,

Adler

Well....these awesome Hessen hauben just keep on comming! I can not even imagine how rare that 9th Komp JR117 helmet is. Just fantastick. Even the one shown in Lacarde's vol 1 from Fort de la Pompelle has the wrong style of chinscales on it.

Talking of the JR117 9.Komp added anchor, axe and pick insignia on the Wappen, does anyone know why this was awarded?

Cheers
Chris

Chris,

The Füsilier Battalion of Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 117 was formed on 1 January 1872 from the former Großherzoglich Hessisches Pionierkompanie (which became the 9. Kompanie) and personnel from the other Grand Ducal Hessian Infantry Regiments. Consequently from this date onwards, 9./IR 117 wore the anchor, axe and pick device on the helmet plate.

Regards
Glenn
