Very nice Mike. I do not believe issued wappen had frosting, only private purchase pieces.
 
Actually Brian, I wondered about that and I couldn't recall whether that was the case or not? This has like a silver wash on the reverse so I wondered if it had such on the front? I'll post a pic asap to show you what I mean.

Just a little to add to the wash business. During the US Civil War, brass buckets and plates had a gilt wash applied to them. Supposedly the reason for the wash was to protect the brass while in storage.
 
Thanks for the reminder T, that clears it up......old age strikes again, or maybe it's "vin rouge" syndrome kicking in again :-?
