I know the Marburg village in the former elocterate of Hesse-kassel was the base for the 11th jagers raised in 1813 and before that it was the 1st westfailen karabiners, and before that was a recruitment site for Hesse-Kassel jager detachments, I was wondering after Prussia took it over in 1866 what detachment came from Marburg. Thanks.

Kurhessisches Jäger-Bataillon Nr.11 Marburg 5.12.1813 XI Armee Korps

I have a picture of one of these guys somewhere. Actually Marburg is not a town I would call it a city. It has a huge University, on top of a hill and when I was quite young and single, I was once sent their from my cavalry squadron to secure a series of dates with American exchange students. Memories of youth.

so it was the 11th, awesome. Thanks allot. You also wouldnt happen to know their order of battle for ww1? Would you?

Sorry i was just looking for a website if you had one, you dont have to do this research for me, Im trying to figure out the Name of a battle where a number of my famliy members perished during ww1 all i know is that they where from Marburg and it was a hill that was fought over for a very long time. Thanks.

Michael,
Marburg is actually a city with a very old univerity dating back to the middle ages.
That said, the 11th Jäger Battalion was still garrisoned there during WWI.
During the Weimar Republic, Infantry Regiment 15 seems to have taken over their billets.

Hope this helps,
K-B

Thanks for the help, My era is the Napoleonic wars and im just recently getting into the Imperial age after finding some of my famliy members items in storage. I know troops from Marburg have always had a excellent reputation as all Hessian soldats did of being very lethal with their rifles and their good conduct in battle, at least in the Seven years war-Napoleonic wars. I hope that reputation carried through WW1. If anyone could point me in the direction about literature about the 11th of a regimental history or a brief biography on the web I would be extremley greatful and would owe them a huge favor. Thanks again.

A good site, with pre-1914 organization, is located at http://users.hunterlink.net.au/~maampo/militaer/milindex.html

Michael,

I have a scan of plate #50 on my site from Das Deutsches Heer, it high-res for color printing and much too large to post here. You can get it here>>

Kurhessisches Jäger-Bataillon Nr.11 wore the same Waffenrock and Tschako as Jäger Btln Nr. 10 on the scan, but with a cyphered shoulder strap. You can see the Jäger-Bataillon Nr.11 strap here>>

http://www.kaisersbunker.com/gtp/straps.htm

And you can read about the Jäger Tschako here>>

For info on where they fought, you might also try the WA forum where there are many fellows who are very involved in unit history. Their site is here>>
